In a UK first the Royal Surrey have treated their 5000th patient using radioactive prostate seeds in May 2022.

For each patient the radiotherapy physics team has been involved in the treatment planning as well as the handling and calibration of the radioactive sources since 1999.

Over the years the team have developed their own hybrid technique known as “4D brachytherapy” which involves producing a plan in real-time during a theatre session, ensuring the patient receives the optimal dose distribution based on the prostate shape and size on that day. More information about the technique can be see here:¬†https://bxta.com/uk/healthcare-professionals/4d-brachytherapy/
