The Royal Surrey has recently achieved two significant milestones in the treatment of patients using Online Adaptive Radiotherapy.
Using the Varian Ethos treatment machine they have now treated over 100 patients using the adaptive technique. Alongside this they have accumulated over 2000 fractions using this advanced AI guided technology.
The adaptive treatments involve generating a new treatment plan individualised to the patients internal anatomy for each daily treatment session. The process which can often take days or weeks from imaging to treatment happens in minutes for these patients.
Work has been completed within the department to reduce the volume of normal tissue receiving the highest doses, which in turn should reduce unwanted side effects caused by the radiotherapy treatments.
