Dr Sam Ellis
My current role is Computer Scientist at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, where I specialise in the development and evaluation of AI methods for mammographic imaging. I originally earned an MPhys in Physics from the University of Surrey in 2014, followed by a PhD at King’s College London, where I developed novel methods for PET and PET-MR image reconstruction. I subsequently worked as a postdoctoral research associate, applying deep learning techniques to lung CT imaging. In November 2022, I joined Royal Surrey, where my research focuses on volumetric breast density estimation, breast cancer risk prediction, and detection. My work places particular emphasis on model generalisability, robustness, and real-world clinical performance, and has led to multiple peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals.
