Dr Maria Liljeroth
Maria graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2008 with an undergraduate Msci in Chemistry & Molecular Physics. Her MSc project was in Nuclear Medicine - looking at the integrity of enteric coatings using Tc99m. She embarked on her PhD in Hyperpolarised Xe-129 Lung MRI at the Sir Peter Mansfield MR Centre in Nottingham in 2009 with a short stint at Duke University in North Carolina and graduated in 2014. She then did a post-doc in neuro-perfusion with a focus on oncology patients using PET-MR at UCL/UCLH in London where she began her ACS Route 2 training to become an HCPC registered MR Clinical Scientist. She worked for a couple of years in Southampton Hospital where she finished her training and kept up her work in neuro-perfusion looking at blood brain permeability in MS patients. In 2016 she moved back to Stockholm, Sweden for 6 years where she worked as an MR physicist at Karolinska University Hospital focusing on neuro-perfusion, non-contrast lung (FD) MRI and MRI safety. She started working at RSCH/RRPS in 2023 and have since attempted to strengthen the tie between medical physics and clinical MRI focusing on MRI safety and clinical development.
