Section: Radiotherapy Physics

The application of physics in medicine, specifically for cancer treatment, interested me more than any other branch of physics. So after my Bachelor's degree in Physics at the Queen Mary University of London I attained a Master’s degree in Medical Physics from King’s College London. I then trained for three years at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and then in 2015 I became registered with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) as a Clinical Scientist. Since 2015 I have been working as a Radiotherapy Physicist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. My day-to-day responsibilities here can be divided into the following categories:
  • Treatment planning
  • Dosimetry
  • Brachytherapy
As well as this I am involved in teaching/training for various staff groups. One of my current projects is "Optimising NTO Parameters for VMAT Planning" to make the planning process more efficient within the Varian Eclipse TPS.
