Dr Nadia Smith
I hold a joint appointment as a Data Scientist with Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust and TÜV SÜD, focusing on AI research in medical imaging that bridges clinical practice, academia, and industry. I completed my PhD in Applied Mathematics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2013, after which I spent a decade at the UK National Physical Laboratory (NPL), where I established and led the Digital Health capability. My affiliation with Royal Surrey began in 2021 during my time at NPL and has continued following my move to TÜV SÜD in 2024. I currently serve as an industrial supervisor for five PhD students, contribute to UK and European research initiatives, and am actively involved in standardisation and AI governance efforts. My contributions include participation in BSI CH/62, DIN SPEC 92007 on AI reference datasets, and the EFOMP Special Interest Group on AI.
