Biography

Matt completed a degree in Astrophysics at the University of Edinburgh and an MSc in Medical Radiation Physics at the University of Wales Swansea, before joining the Physical Scientists in Healthcare Training Scheme at St. George’s Hospital. He specialised in Radiotherapy Physics, joining the department at RSCH in 2007 and leading on projects including the development of four-dimensional CT scanning for lung cancer.

Having attained HCPC registration, Matt was appointed as Deputy Head of Dosimetry, then later as Lead Satellite Radiotherapy Physicist. In this latter role Matt led the commissioning of the St. Luke’s Radiotherapy Department at East Surrey Hospital and went on to manage the onsite physics service.

Now appointed as Head of Dosimetry, he manages the quality assurance and calibration of the treatment and imaging equipment across both sites. He is also working towards a professional doctorate via the Higher Specialist Scientific Training programme, including research into adaptive radiotherapy to account for organ deformation.
