Chief Investigator: Dr Michael J Michell, MB BChir (Cantab), DMRD, FRCR
Dr Michell is a Consultant Radiologist , King’s College Hospital, London, South East London Screening Programme and National Breast Screening Training Centre. He has been involved in the development of the Breast Screening Quality Assurance Programme, has served as a member of the Department of Health  Advisory Committee on Breast Cancer Screening, and has been chairman of the National Radiologists Breast Screening QA Committee and the Royal College of Radiologists Breast Group.


Collaborator: Professor Fiona J Gilbert,
Professor of Radiology, Head of Department Cambridge Honorary Consultant Radiologist – Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Her current research interests are in evaluating breast Tomosynthesis, non FDG radiotracers in cancer, and breast MRI. She is interested in using imaging to gain a better understanding of tumour physiology. She is an NIHR Senior Investigator.


Collaborator: Professor Stephen Duffy
I am a statistician by training, educated at the University of Edinburgh and Imperial College, London. I have worked in the UK, Singapore, France, Sweden and Russia. For the last four decades, my research has been mainly in cancer epidemiology, prevention and screening. I worked on the pioneering Swedish Two-County Trial of breast cancer screening, on which the UK’s national breast screening programme was based. I also direct the Policy Research Unit in Cancer Awareness, Screening and Early Diagnosis.


Collaborator: Prof. Alastair G Gale – Loughborough University. Emeritus Professor of Applied Vision Sciences BSc (Dunelm), PhD (Dunelm), FBPsS, CPsychol, FErgS, HonFRCR. Ostensibly retired, yet internationally involved in various medical imaging and applied vision research projects and consultancies, particularly breast screening and homeland security.


Principle Investigator, Kings College Hospital: Dr Keshthra Satchithananda, Consultant Radiologist, BDS, FDSRCS, MBBS, FRCS, FRCR. She’s a consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College, London. She works in both the NHS breast screening programme (NHSBSP) and the symptomatic breast service. She is accredited to the standards of the NHSBSP and offers expertise in a multimodality approach to breast imaging.


Principle Investigator, North London: Dr William Teh
I specialise in ultrasound and biopsy techniques including image guided vacuum excision of benign lesions with expertise in Breast MRI and MRI guided vacuum biopsies. I have chaired breast cancer and imaging boards and participated in standard settings for breast cancer and screening including NHSBSP and NICE.


Collaborator: Dr Yan Chen
Loughborough Associate Professor of Cancer Screening at Division of Cancer and Stem Cell, School of Medicine at University of Nottingham.
She has been deeply involved in further studying the performance of radiologists in breast screening, working directly for the National NHS Breast Screening Programme. Her expertise focuses on how to improve the radiological identification of early breast cancer using digital mammography. It concentrates upon the potential use of eye movement information for future training in interpreting mammograms and the use of computer-based interpretation training using low-cost and hand-held devices.


Principle Investigator, Bristol: Dr Alexandra Valencia
Consultant Radiologist with a Specialist Interest in all aspects of Breast Imaging and Breast Intervention including screening and symptomatic patients, stereocore biopsies and excisions, Breast MRI, MR guided biopsies and CT staging. She is the Clinical Director Avon Breast Screening Unit.


Principle Investigator, Leeds: Dr Nisha Sharma
Interests include Breast Radiology, in particular the role of imaging in diagnosing and managing breast disease. I am developing a keen interest in doing research. I am also involved in the teaching programme for breast through the radiology academy. Lead Clinician.
