us"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Welcome to the Medical Physics Department<\/h1>\n<div class=\"adxCopy\">\n<p>The Medical Physics department at <span class=\"outlook-search-highlight\" data-markjs=\"true\">Royal<\/span> <span class=\"outlook-search-highlight\" data-markjs=\"true\">Surrey<\/span> comprises five different sections, providing expert scientific input to medical services:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/medphys.royalsurrey.nhs.uk\/department\/radiation-protection\/\">Regional Radiation Protection Service<\/a>: Provide physics expertise to diagnostic radiology services\u00a0across a wide geographical footprint, including over 300 external <span class=\"outlook-search-highlight\" data-markjs=\"true\">NHS<\/span> and private healthcare providers<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/medphys.royalsurrey.nhs.uk\/department\/nuclear-medicine\">Nuclear Medicine Physics<\/a>: Provide physics expertise to Nuclear Medicine Services to deliver diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/medphys.royalsurrey.nhs.uk\/department\/radiotherapy-physics\/\">Radiotherapy Physics<\/a>: Provide physics expertise to\u00a0Radiotherapy to provide external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy services.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/medphys.royalsurrey.nhs.uk\/department\/scientific-computing\/\">Scientific Computing<\/a>: Provide scientific computing expertise to develop a wide range of bespoke software to support the other Medical Physics sections, clinical services and large-scale research projects.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/medphys.royalsurrey.nhs.uk\/department\/nccpm\/\">National Co-ordinating Centre for the Physics of Mammography<\/a>, run on behalf of Public Health England and provide physics expertise to the <span class=\"outlook-search-highlight\" data-markjs=\"true\">NHS<\/span>Breast Screening Programme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Medical Physics department comprises approximately 110 staff members, spread across the five different Medical Physics sections including clinical scientists, computer scientists, technical staff, dosimetrists, radiographers, administrative and nursing staff.\u00a0 Additionally, there is a strong focus on training, and the department routinely hosts 5 placement students as part of their undergraduate degrees and 11-14 trainees on the <span data-markjs=\"true\">NHS<\/span>CS Scientist Training Programme.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The department is active in research, holding a number of research grants and maintaining a significant research output in terms of publications and presentations at major national and international conferences.\u00a0 The department are also part of a Medical Physics Collaboration with the University of <span data-markjs=\"true\">Surrey<\/span> and National Physical Laboratory<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Medical Physics department has offices both within the <span data-markjs=\"true\">Royal<\/span> <span data-markjs=\"true\">Surrey<\/span> County Hospital and on the <span data-markjs=\"true\">Surrey<\/span>Research
